Brothers participated in a Marshmallow Team Building challenge.
This month at IYT at Roosevelt Jr. High, our brothers continued to grow as scholars and leaders through hands-on activities that challenged their teamwork, focus, and creativity.
Our Marshmallow Team-Building Challenge brought out problem-solving skills and healthy competition. Using only spaghetti, tape, string, and a single marshmallow, teams learned the power of communication, persistence, and collaboration—key traits of strong leadership.
On the field, our Soccer and Football Leadership Workshop reinforced accountability and teamwork through movement and play. Every drill and discussion tied back to our Brotherhood values—trust, respect, and service—and helped students see how the discipline they show in sports connects directly to success in school and life.
Brothers engaged in a soccer and football leadership workshop.
Beyond our workshops, brothers continued to stay committed to their academic journey through daily study hall sessions, held every programming day. Mentors provided one-on-one academic support, college prep guidance, and reflective conversations that centered on goal setting and personal growth.
We’re also celebrating our mentors for meeting the 7-week goal deadline, ensuring that every brother has had a college-focused and development-driven check-in. These consistent, intentional conversations continue to make a real impact on our students’ confidence, leadership, and future vision.
This month reminded us that success isn’t just measured by grades or wins—it’s built through consistency, effort, and community.
Brother of the Month
Brother Juda
This month, we proudly recognize Brother Juda for embodying three of IYT’s core values: character, service, and teamwork.
After an end-of-day workshop, when the classroom wasn’t quite up to par, Juda stepped up without being asked. Alongside his fellow IYT brother, Ezera, he volunteered to stay and help clean up. Even after being told they could leave, Juda showed true leadership and responsibility by calling his parents to ask for permission to stay and finish the job.
His actions reflected integrity, humility, and a deep sense of brotherhood—setting the standard for what it means to lead through service. If we could honor two Brothers of the Month, Juda and Ezera would both share that title. Juda’s consistent actions remind us that leadership is about what you do when no one’s watching.
